High schools to host free vaccine clinics
The Escondido Union High School District will be hosting vaccine clinics every day starting Monday at its five high school campuses. No registration is required, and the clinics are open to all community members. Students and their families can attend any of the clinics, regardless of which school they are enrolled in. All people 12 years and older can get a free COVID-19 vaccine. Parents/guardians must attend with their students to provide consent. The schedule:
- 2 to 6 p.m. Monday, San Pasqual High, 3300 Bear Valley Parkway
- 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Orange Glen High, 2200 Glenridge Road
- 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Escondido High, 1535 N. Broadway
- 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Del Lago Academy, 1740 Scenic Trail Way
- 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, Valley High, 410 Hidden Trails Road
Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines will be offered. Youths ages 12-17 can receive the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. Anyone 18 and older will be able to choose their vaccine. More clinics will be held the week of Sept. 27 so people who received the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines can receive their second shots. Call (760) 291-3200.

Back-to-school drive wraps up Monday
United Way of San Diego County finishes its virtual back-to-school drive Monday, supporting students whose families are still experiencing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The public is invited to choose and buy new school supplies to donate from the organization’s Amazon School Supply Wish List. Visit amzn.to/3sLr0GI. Besides donating school supplies through the Amazon Wish List, money donations can be made directly to UWSD. The virtual back-to-school drive is sponsored by Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan, an independent member of the Blue Shield Association. Visit uwsd.org.

League gives $23K in scholarships

The Assistance League of Rancho San Dieguito recently awarded $23,000 in college scholarships to 11 graduating seniors of the San Dieguito Union High School District. Awardees for this year are from four high schools: from Sunset High School, Devon Hollingsworth, Sienna Griffin and Venkata Putta: from Canyon Crest High School, Jessica Gillman and Brian Hall: from La Costa Canyon High School, Max McLaurin and Emma Vega: and from San Dieguito Academy, Brandon Eng, Malia Guillory, Kayle Hultgren and Dalia Salgado. Continuing second year college scholarships went to Kayla Brown and Ella Soth. Scholarships are awarded to seniors recommended by their school faculty and social workers. College students build homes with Habitat
College students from the University of Saint Katherine recently teamed up with San Diego Habitat for Humanity to build six townhomes for families in National City. Ten softball players from the private university volunteered to do the construction in mid-August. This partnership between the University of Saint Katherine and Habitat will continue with the construction of 10 housing units in Escondido, scheduled to start within the next six months.
