Qualcomm Inc. (NASDAQ: QCOM) has named Penny Baldwin as senior vice president and chief marketing officer (CMO), reporting directly to Steve Mollenkopf, chief executive officer of Qualcomm.Baldwin brings more than 35 years of marketing and branding expertise, with experience across the full spectrum of marketing disciplines and in leading global marketing and communications teams. Over the course of her career, Penny has worked with several Fortune 500 brands including Microsoft, Intel, Oracle, AMD, NetApp and Hewlett-Packard, and has been recognized with numerous creative and industry awards including Clios, Gold Lions and Emmys. Prior to joining Qualcomm, Baldwin was VP and GM of global brand management at Intel, where she was responsible for developing and managing Intel’s global brand strategy, positioning and reputation. Baldwin was also responsible for partner marketing, New Technology Group and sports marketing globally. Prior to Intel, Baldwin was executive VP and CMO at McAfee. She has also held senior leadership positions at companies including Yahoo!, Young & Rubicam, Arnold Worldwide, McCann-Erickson and Ogilvy & Mather.

Newport Beach-based digital marketing agency YMarketing has been acquired by Chicago-based Sandbox. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Orange County Business Journal reports that YMarketing, founded in 2002 by Ryan Lash, employs 73 and posted $9.7 million in revenue last year. Its clients include United Healthcare, Yamaha Motorsports, Hair Club and Lantronix. Sandbox, founded in 2014, employs 425 at seven offices. Its clients include Sprint, American Express, Monsanto and John Deere.

Public relations veteran Derek Danziger has left Nuffer, Smith, Tucker (NST) after five years and will join Katz & Associates as president starting Nov. 6. He will be responsible for oversight and strategic direction for the 40-employee firm’s three offices in San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Danziger will report directly to founder and CEO Sara Katz. Danziger has more than 20 years of strategic PR, marketing and communications experience, primarily in the public sector, and is well-known in the San Diego business community. At NST, he served as VP and developed the firm’s Public Outreach and Community Relations practice (now in its 43rd year in business, NST is regarded as San Diego’s longest-standing local PR).

Walcher Communications (JWC), a San Diego PR agency, has promoted Jenna Brossman from senior account executive to integrated marketing communications manager. The position is a first for the agency. The agency said the promotion reflects Brossman’s role. At JWC she manages a wide variety of full-service clients by collaborating with and overseeing staff and partners in implementing integrated marketing campaigns. Brossman’s job includes brand development, public relations, website design and development, advertising, digital and social media, events and partnerships.
